TRIUMPH TR2
History
The car that wore the first badge of the TR was the TRX, which was shown at the 1950 Paris Motor Show but not put into production. It set a loose template for what was to become the TR2. The new TR which was called the 20TS was unveiled at the 1952 London Motor Show. By the end of 1952 the all new TR2 was unveiled with the old one being referred to as TR1. With a completely new chassis and improved handling it was unveiled at the 1953 Geneva Motor Show.
Between 1953 to 1955 a total of 8628 TR2’s were produced.
Distinctive Features
The TR2 featured a minimalist look with frogeye headlights, a gaping hole for a grille and almost non-existent cutaway doors. These doors later came to be known as long doors.

The car used a twin SU carburetor version of the 1991 cc four-cylinder Standard Vanguard engine tuned to increase its output to 90 bhp. The body was mounted on a substantial separate chassis with coil-sprung independent suspension at the front and a leaf spring live axle at the rear. Either wire or disc wheels could be supplied. The standard transmission was a four-speed manual unit, with overdrive available on top gear as an option. Lockheed drum brakes were fitted all round.
Platform used was a straightforward ladder type chassis. The rear end featured a cut way boot lid and a separate enclosure for a spare wheel.
