The Ford Mustang is an American automobile manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. It is a pillar of American automotive and is acknowledged as the car that brought sporting dash and styling at a price almost anyone could afford.

1965

The 1964½, as it was later called, was available in only two models: the coupe and convertible. To cut down the development cost the Mustang was based on simple components, many of which were already in production for other Ford models. Both models featured the now classic Mustang look with a lengthened hood and shortened rear deck. Other distinctive features included chrome wrap-around bumpers, chrome grille with a running horse and full wheel covers. Both models were available with a 6 cylinder engine (170 cid 101 BHP) or a V8 (260 cid, 164 BHP).

1965

1965 brought few changes for the Mustang. The biggest change was the availability of a new fastback model. Power outputs of the engines were improved. Pony interior was offered as an option.

1966

Most of the changes for 1966 were in the form of cosmetic refinements. A new grill featured chrome edged horizontal inserts. The chrome bars that extended horizontally and vertically from the running horse were deleted. Back up lights become standard. On the inside the instrument panel was changed to five gauges and the seats were changed to "woven" vinyl seat inserts. Other changes were limited to color variations and a few trim tweaks.

1967

1967 brought the first major restyling to the Ford Mustang. The grille opening was made bigger, the side scallops deeper, the taillights were now larger and concave instead of modest and convex. On the Fastback the roof now extended all the way back to the trunk lid's trailing edge.

1968

The 1968 Mustang was little changed from it 1967 counterpart. Most of the changes were in subtle refinements to the interior and exterior. Federally mandated side marker lights and a revised grille distinguished the 1968 Mustang from the '67 on the outside Horizontal bars on the grill were removed as were the FORD letters on the front of the hood. New options for the 1968 Mustang included an AM/FM stereo radio, rear window defogger (coupe and fastback only), re-designed front power disc brakes, and the all-new 302 cid engine. A slew of new engines were introduced.
